SPORTS BETTORS WHO ARE LIVING THE LIFE

The dream of many sports bettors is to win enough so they can do whatever they want.

They might want to bet on more sporting events, or invest in real estate or the stock market, or play tennis, but the dream is doing it because they want to, not because they have to.

I don't know any of the people listed on this page personally, but from the outside looking in they all seem to be living the life.

Billy Walters

Often called the most dangerous sports bettor in Nevada, Billy Walters has been beating the odds for decades. Walters tries to lead a somewhat private life but his level of success has the media constantly trying to get an interview.

He was one of the founding members of the famous computer group, using his influence and contacts to get bets placed for the group. (If you don't know the computer group story you have to read about it. No sports bettor should place another wager without learning more about how the computer group killed the sports books for several years.)

Legend has it that Walters has only had one losing year gambling in decades, but in a rare interview he stated that less than 10% of his current activities involve sports betting.

Walters is originally from Kentucky and moved to Las Vegas in the early 1980's.

He's had a long list of legal issues and has been the target of the FBI, but for the most part he's been able to survive the problems and always come out better than he was before.

Many people who worked for Walters over the years tell stories of how he used his power and money to move sports lines one way before placing even larger wagers on the other side.

Walters is one of two people on this list covered in the book Gambling Wizards.

Billy Walters has a fascinating story and any serious sports bettor should learn as much about him as possible.

He's currently living the life as possibly the world's most successful sports gambler.

Stan Tomchin

The other person on this list covered in Gambling Wizards, and also associated with the computer group, Stan Tomchin is living the life.

Tomchin was charged with 56 felonies as the alleged owner of Pinnacle Sports in 2012, but was able to reach a deal where all of the felonies were dropped and he plead guilty to a single misdemeanor charge.

The main reason I bring this up is because almost every sports bettor struggles to find ways to beat the sports books on a day in and day out basis. If the allegations about Tomchin owning Pinnacle Sports are true, he was smart enough to move over to the other side. The sports books are the ones that make money consistently, unlike most sports bettors.

Currently Tomchin spends his time playing tennis and being a philanthropist.

Following a long life of profitable sports betting and a possible move into ownership on the other side of the market, Tomchin has been able to come out on top at the end and spend his time like he wants now.

Steve Fezzik

Steve Fezzik is in the business of selling sports picks, unlike the first two people we looked at above. Because you can sell more picks if more people know who you are, Fezzik spends a great deal of time marketing himself. Being a self-promoter isn't necessarily a bad thing, but keep it in mind if you start doing additional research.

His main claim to fame is winning the Las Vegas Hilton Super Contest in back to back seasons in 2008 and 2009. He also has six major contest victories with over a million dollars in lifetime prizes.

Fezzik worked in Los Angeles in the late 1990's when he often traveled to Las Vegas to place sport bets. He found he had a knack for it and started winning more betting on sports than working, so in 2001 he quit his job, moved to Las Vegas, and started betting full time.

He also has a twitter account with over 20,000 followers. It's used mostly to support his pick services so don't expect a bunch of free advice.

Being a full time sports bettor, winning contests, and selling picks sound like living the life to me.

So Money

Living somewhere in Canada, So Money is one of the most popular sports bettors on Twitter. With almost 20,000 followers, sports bettors around the world wait for him to post his next pick.

Many sports bettors start posting their picks on Twitter in hopes of eventually developing enough of a following to start charging for their pick service.

I've read many people on forums claim the So Money is following this same route, but if he is he's not in much of a hurry.

I don't know his real name, but I didn't dig around too much to try to uncover it either. I respect when someone wants to maintain his privacy online, especially when he gives free picks. His call name, So Money, comes from his Twitter handle.

It also helps that he comes across as a good guy. From his past participation on some of the online betting forums to his helpful nature in his Twitter posts, he seems genuine.

I can't personally attest to his success rate on his free picks but almost everyone I trust who talks about them on the forums think he offers solid value.

Following the theme of the page, sports bettors who are living the life, So Money looks like he's living the life because he's been able to keep tweeting out good advice and free picks for years.

Teddy "Covers" Sevransky

Doing at least as well in the marketing department as in the picks department, Teddy Sevransky is one of the most popular gambling "experts" in many parts of the country. Of course you probably know him as Teddy Covers, but he's been in full on marketing mode since the late 1990's.

Teddy is a University of Michigan graduate and started offering sports pick services in Las Vegas in 1998. Among the newspapers, magazines, radio, and television shows he's been on or in are the following.

  • Las Vegas Review Journal
  • Las Vegas Sun
  • Sports Memo Radio Show
  • Playboy
  • New York Times
  • Trader Monthly
  • The Stardust Line

He's also finished at or close to the top in various betting competitions throughout the years. Some of these contests include:

  • The Hilton NFL Superbook Contest
  • The Stardust Invitational
  • The Sports Monitor College Basketball
  • The Sports Monitor Professional Basketball
  • The Sports Monitor NFL
  • The Alatex Football Contest
  • The Vegas Sportswire Invitational
  • He currently sells his pick service on Sports Memo.

Any sports bettor with as much popularity and name recognition as Teddy Covers who can sell picks for a living is living the life.

Conclusion

If you want to join the sports bettors who are living the life you can. All you have to do is start picking winners on a consistent basis.

While this may sound easy, you'll quickly learn how hard it really is. But that doesn't mean you can't do it.

All you have to do is put in the time and hard work and you can have a chance to live the life as a sports bettor too!
