With the great expansion of on-line betting as a whole, we, the bettors were presented with a brand new and exciting way of betting. Something, that might have been unthinkable 15 years ago- IN-PLAY BETTING.
At first it was brought to the world by betting exchanges, and at the beginning just a few were taking advantage of it. As the time passed more and more people discovered it’s advantages to the certain styles of an old- school betting and in-play betting practitioners became more, and more and more. We won’t be far away from the truth of we say that in-play betting just grew exponentially over the last years especially. The number of bookmakers, offering in-play betting in their portfolio also grew up exponentially, with new bookmakers coming on-board almost every day. Up to where it is nowadays- it would be hard to find a big and well-respected bookmaker, who does not offer in-play betting.
Now we are going to talk for a while for the advantages and the disadvantages of the in-play betting. The whole concept of in-play betting by the way is the ability of the bettor to make bets after the event has already started. Now the obvious advantages of being able to bet even 1 minute after it’s start is obvious- you get to know about injuries, line-ups, substitutions and the like straight away, so just with an advantage of a couple minutes you get to know some things, which otherwise were unpredictable to their’s full capacity. Another advantage is that you get to shape a notion in your head about the current standing of a team, or of a player as the games unfolds. Is the home team pressing the action from the first seconds onwards, or rather unexpected, the away team is the one, leading the initiative 20 minutes into the game? Were any red cards shown up to the half time and how this could affect the overall outcome of the game?- all these are things you get to know by watching and placing bets in-play, so to summarize- with an in-play betting you get to bet much more informed rather than with betting before the kick-off.
Another field, in which the in-play betting is quite reasonable is the betting during different kinds of tournaments- golf, cricket, tennis, you name it, when it’s a tournament you always have a slight advantage over those, who have placed their bets before the it starts, because in the case of a tournament and the way it unfolds you always get to acquire a more accurate and up to date info, betting in-play.
Another type of betting where we find especially applicable and well reasonable with in-play betting is the Novelty betting If you do some novelty betting in-play you will quickly recognize the advantages of the in-play betting up to a point where you are going to bet, feeling that you are getting tipped by an insider about how the game will unfold.
Now, having mentioned the advantages of the in-play betting we are just going to give you some word of caution about it’s dangers or in other words- it’s disadvantages.
Be aware that in some sports the odds in-play move extremely fast, up to a point where you will find it impossible to do it without a proper betting software for this purpose. Horse racing might be the perfect example of an event, in which the odds change not for seconds, but in milliseconds. This is why it’s not possible to do it without some kind of a betting bot. In fact if you start using such a thing you will find out that the odds movement is so frantic, that even the bot does not manage to be efficient all the times.
Another very popular sports with fast and furious odds movement is football/or soccer if you like calling it this way/. And although in football the speed of the odds movement is nowhere near to that with horse racing, there are still things you should consider, before considering to bet on it- and that’s the time delay in accepting in-play bets. At first there was no time delay, which was used by some individuals to make a lot of money, watching a football match and having his laptop with him, ready to place a bet immediately after a goal is scored. Cause with virtually all broadcasters there is a bit of delay in transmission, which actually can go up to 10seconds, the guy on the pitch with a laptop will know about the goal being scored say 10 seconds before you, who were watching the game on television. These 10 seconds were enough for him/ actually even 3-4 seconds were well enough/ to place a bet for a large sum of money, knowing full well that the bet is a winner.
Now the things look a lot different- there is an obligatory time delay in accepting the bets/which in football on most exchanges we believe is 8 seconds/.The obligatory delay was firstly imposed by the UK Gambling Commission, and than accepted by all bookmakers. So the laptop guy doesn’t have this advantage anymore so you can rest assured and bet in-play, knowing full well, that it is a fair game you are participating in.
So although it was just meant to be a word of caution the bottom line is that there are certain things in in-play betting, you should familiarize yourself with, before starting to bet huge in-play.
We hope this was useful for you and that it’s worth trying in-play betting by all means.
